Self portrait series ~ Vanity as mood stabiliser.

Hello!

I am a visual communication designer and researcher based in Edinburgh, Scotland. My professional practice lies at the intersection of design, academia, and applied research. I aim to use design as a tool to catalyse social and cultural innovation.

At present, I am a Research Associate in the Data + Design Lab based at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) – which is iterating and establishing design-based approaches, toolkits and methods to support the design of teams and collaborations across the EFI. Previously, I have worked in various roles in the education, creative, and third sector across Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom. My research explores participatory design, hybridity, pluriversality and transnationalism. I am particularly interested in how the nuances of cultural context create frictions that challenge notions of universality.

My doctoral thesis is rooted in the commodification of education and investigates the global trade of design higher education services. Trading Design Education is a critical study of transnational education systems and the export of British design curriculum to South Asia, exploring its value in a different social, economic, and cultural context. It offers qualitative, contextually aware insights to a field of study that has relied predominantly on quantitative data and the perspective of institutes exporting educational curricula overseas.

Send me an email; I would love to hear from you.
